New to Woodstock? Start water with the city (770-592-6006), choose a power company and gas marketer, register your car within 30 days and file homestead by April 1.

Last checked Oct. 6, 2026. This page is an index for new residents: it links our other guides and the official start-service pages. Every provider’s details come from its own website, linked below. First, check whether your address is inside city limits on the city’s city limits and ward map; a Woodstock mailing address does not always mean a home is inside city limits, and that changes who provides water, trash and permits. City Hall: 770-592-6000.

Electricity

Woodstock does not sell power. Depending on your address, you will buy it from Georgia Power or an electric cooperative; the Cherokee County Chamber of Commerce lists four providers in the county. Ask your landlord, builder or seller which one serves the home.

Water and sewer

Inside city limits, the City of Woodstock’s Water & Sewer Utility serves about 8,700 customers. To start service, submit the city’s connection application online or in person at 12453 Highway 92 with:

  • A valid photo ID for the account holder
  • If renting, the first page and signature page of your signed lease

A deposit, refunded when you close the account, must be paid before your first day of service. Bills are mailed around the 10th and due on the 30th of each month. The city’s My Water Advisor portal shows hourly use and leak alerts once your meter is set up. Details: Establish/Disconnect Service.

Outside city limits, the Chamber of Commerce directs residents to the Cherokee County Water and Sewerage Authority, 770-479-1813.

Natural gas

In metro Atlanta, Atlanta Gas Light owns the gas pipes but does not sell gas to homes. It became a pipes-only company in 1998, the Georgia Public Service Commission says, and you buy gas from a certified marketer instead. The PSC publishes the list of certified marketers, a monthly price comparison and a complaints scorecard.

The City of Woodstock has a partnership with one marketer, Gas South, described on the city’s Gas South page; you are free to choose any certified marketer.

Internet

Providers that publish service pages for Woodstock addresses include Xfinity and AT&T. To see every provider that reports service at your exact address, search the FCC’s National Broadband Map.

Trash and recycling

Inside city limits, Red Oak Sanitation is the only residential hauler. Set up your account with Red Oak’s intake form or online on its Woodstock page. Outside the city, the Cherokee County Chamber of Commerce keeps a list of member sanitation companies. See trash and recycling.

Driver’s license and car registration

  • Driver’s license: apply for a Georgia license within 30 days of becoming a resident. Transfers are done at a Department of Driver Services Customer Service Center; see the DDS license transfer page for what to bring.
  • Car registration: new residents have 30 days to register their vehicles, the Tax Commissioner says. Bring your Georgia driver’s license or ID; the state uses its number as your account number. Register at the Canton office, 2780 Marietta Highway, or the Woodstock Annex, 155 Towne Lake Parkway, both open weekdays 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Estimate the one-time title tax with the state’s TAVT estimator.

Homestead exemption

If you bought the home you live in, apply for a homestead exemption with the Cherokee County Tax Assessors’ Office (678-493-6120) by April 1 of the first year you want it. Missing the deadline waives the exemption for that year. See property taxes.

Pets

The City of Woodstock’s website lists no city pet license. Animal control across the county is handled by Cherokee County Animal Control, 678-493-6200, and Woofstock Park at 150 Dupree Road is the city’s dog park.

Update your voter registration at your new address online or when you get your Georgia license. The deadline is 30 days before each election. See voting.
